questions

These are the questions people often ask before working with me

Do you work with parents as well as the young person?

Yes. While sessions are primarily focused on the young person, I often involve parents or carers when it’s helpful. This might include brief check-ins, collaborative planning, or sharing strategies to support your child between sessions.

 Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer online sessions via secure video call. This can be helpful for families looking for greater flexibility or who prefer remote access.

What qualifications do you have?

I am fully accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2018 with a degree in Mental Health Nursing and went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Children and Young People’s High Intensity CBT at King’s College London in 2021, as part of the national CYP IAPT programme.

Since 2019, I have worked within the NHS, specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). I began offering individual therapy in 2021 and have since gained extensive experience supporting young people with a wide range of mental health difficulties.

Alongside my CBT training, I have also undertaken specialist training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with British Isles DBT Training, equipping me to provide evidence-based support for young people experiencing complex emotional and behavioural challenges.

I am a child, can I self refer?

Yes

How long does therapy usually last?

Therapy varies from person to person. Some clients benefit from short-term work (6-12 sessions), while others may engage in longer-term support. We’ll regularly review progress together to ensure sessions remain useful and goal-oriented.

Is this service confidential and safe?

Anything we discuss during your sessions is kept secure and safe so as to protect your identity and your privacy. I will not discuss this with other people without your express consent.

However, it is vital to let you know that there may be instances where I may need to share information with others. An example of this would be if there were a person at risk, including yourself.

If this were the case, then I would endeavour to discuss this with you beforehand.

What can my child expect in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and begin understanding what’s been going on. I’ll ask some questions about your child’s experiences, thoughts, and behaviours, and we’ll start identifying goals for therapy. It’s a relaxed, collaborative process, there’s no pressure to share everything at once.

We’re so grateful for Alexandra’s support...
Our son had been struggling with social anxiety for a long time, and things reached a point where he could barely face going to school. Alexandra approached him with such warmth and patience that he slowly began to trust the process.

She helped him understand his anxiety and gave him practical ways to face situations that felt overwhelming. It wasn’t an overnight change, but over the weeks we saw him rebuild his confidence and start engaging with school life again. We’re so grateful for Alexandra’s support through a really difficult time.

Alexandra gave her space to talk...
We noticed a real shift in our daughter after working with Alexandra. She was withdrawn and sad, and we felt quite helpless.

Alexandra gave her space to talk, helped her find her voice again, and gently encouraged her to take steps forward. She’s brighter, more motivated, and seems like herself again. We couldn’t have asked for more.

The DBT skills they worked on have made a huge difference...
Our teenager had a lot of difficulty managing emotions and it was creating constant tension at home. Alexandra really ‘got’ her. she didn’t judge, and she explained things in a way that clicked.

The DBT skills they worked on have made a huge difference. We still have ups and downs, but now she’s got tools she actually uses, and we can see her trying. It’s brought a sense of calm back into the house that we didn’t think was possible a year ago.

The improvement has been
remarkable...
We came to Alexandra looking for structured CBT for our daughter’s OCD. From the outset, her knowledge and clarity gave us confidence. She involved us appropriately as parents, explained the rationale for each step, and supported our daughter to face her fears gradually but effectively.

The improvement has been remarkable and rituals that once dominated her day are now manageable, and she feels equipped to keep working on her progress.

He’s sleeping better, going out more, and seems so much more at ease...
When our son started having panic attacks, it was frightening for all of us. Alexandra was calm, reassuring, and knew exactly how to help. She explained things clearly, gave him techniques that worked, and helped us understand how to support him at home.

He’s sleeping better, going out more, and seems so much more at ease. It’s been a huge relief.

The techniques we practised were genuinely useful...
At first, I didn’t really want to talk to anyone about how I was feeling, but Alexandra made it feel safe and not awkward. She actually listened and helped me make sense of my thoughts, rather than just telling me what to do.

The techniques we practised were genuinely useful and I still use them now when I get anxious. I feel a lot more confident in myself and like I can handle things better.
